First measure your waist and cut your elastic:
Determine how long you want your skirt. I made my 22 inches long (including the seam)
To determine the width of the fabric. You need to take the measurement of the waist and times it by two then subtract six.
For example:
I cut my elastic at 32 inches, so that times two is 64. Then I minus 6 inches. So I cut my fabric 58 inches wide. This little formula works for me.
Then take your fabric and fold in half with the right sides together:
Sew the edges together:
Iron the seam that you just sewed open:
For the hem, fold a half an inch and iron:
Then fold over an inch and iron:
Then sew the hem:
OK, now the skirt part is done for now, Now grab that elastic you cut and fold in half and sew at a half inch allowance. (Don't forget to back stitch):
Then open the elastic and sew both side down like so. (Don't forget to back stitch):
OK, now with the elastic and fabric with the right sides together pin the two together. Line the seams of the elastic and fabric:

OK, this is the tricky part. When you sew the elastic and fabric together, YOU MUST stretch the elastic. Other wise you will be left with to much fabric and not enough elastic.
I love elastic skirts, so comfy and playful. Especially since I haven't lost all the baby weight, they are very forgiving.
